What is Integrated Graphic and Dedicated Graphic?
Integrated Graphic is GPU that is come with CPU (Central Processing Unit) itself.
for an example, "Intel Core i5-8250U" CPU has "Intel UHD 620" GPU inside it.
Dedicated Graphics is GPU that is preinstalled by some laptop manufacturer alongside with the CPU, and have its own VRAM while Integrated Graphics use shared memory (RAM) to process graphics.
The Problem
The laptop today have integrated Graphics alongside with dedicated graphics, so they physically have 2 graphics at the same time.
The problem is, it's your choice to pick whenever you want to use Integrated graphics or dedicated graphics. Today, I'm going to show you how to make this possible for you to switch the graphic globally or app settings.
- First, open your nVidia Control Panel by right-clicking your desktop and choose NVIDIA Control Panel.
- On the left panel, pick "Manage 3D Settings"
- Now, this is your choice whenever you want to change graphics for all apps or a single app. if you want to change graphics for all apps, on the Global Settings, click on the drop-down and choose "NVIDIA High-Performance NVIDIA processor" then click Apply
- If you want to change graphics for a single app, choose "Program settings" tab, choose which app you want to configure in the drop-down, Select your preferred graphics in the drop-down and pick "NVIDIA High-performance processor". Click Apply.
- After you applied your settings, now you can restart (my recommendation) then launch the app you want to launch. To check if it uses Dedicated graphics or Integrated graphics, launch Task Manager, More details, Performance, check GPU 1, check whenever its running or not if it runs it should not be 0%, The Integrated GPU will never go off because it will still render your current display (e.g desktop, aero, metro)(change this by enabling Nvidia Optimus in BIOS), so if your GPU 1 is 0%, it's mean you are using Integrated GPU for rendering device.
That's the tutorial on how to use Dedicated graphic over an Integrated graphic.
Sorry if my English messed up.
